our mission

Mend on the Move, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit social enterprise, employs survivors of abuse in Metro Detroit to create jewelry which provides them with an income while in recovery. Our jewelry is crafted from salvaged auto parts and car seat leather, symbolic of our commitment to serve women locally in the Motor City.

While we do sell jewelry, that’s just the vehicle we use to do our real work; helping our makers feel valued, gain confidence, find independence and grow toward healing in a caring and safe work space.
Our makers are contributing to an empowering movement that is helping abused women take back their lives. An additional part of Mend's mission is contributing toward decreasing the more than 3 million tons of non-recyclable auto parts landfilled each year in the US.
The materials we use have been donated by many generous companies in the auto industry here in Detroit, and each purchase helps provide an income for our employees and allows us to keep doing what we love to do - helping women thrive.

JOANNE FOUNDED MEND ON THE MOVE IN 2015, HANDING LEADERSHIP OFF TO OUR CURRENT EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, SAMANTHA SEELHOFF, IN 2023

”Mend on the Move was created from a place of healing. It was the culmination of all my past pain, suffering, experiences, gifts and talents coming together for a very clear and intentional purpose. To walk alongside and encourage other women who felt as I once had.”
